PC Mohammed Sardar, who served in the East Basic Command Unit, has been found guilty of discreditable conduct following an investigation into illegal computer access.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) revealed that Sardar accessed police computer systems without cause over a three-year period from 2018 to 2021. The information obtained was used without any policing purpose, violating professional standards.
On 22 September, Sardar pleaded guilty to offences under the Computer Misuse Act at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. He is scheduled to be sentenced on 8 January 2024.
Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell condemned Sardar’s actions as “wholly unacceptable.” He stated: “We set the highest standards for our officers and Sardar’s actions were wholly unacceptable. We are committed to ensuring that our officers and staff comply with the Information Code of Conduct as this outcome demonstrates.”
Following the guilty plea, Sardar will be added to the Barred List maintained by the College of Policing. This list prohibits individuals from working for police forces, Police and Crime Commissioners, the IOPC, HM Inspectorate of Constabulary, and Fire and Rescue Services.
