Four men have been charged after a terrifying shooting incident on Radway Road, Huyton, Merseyside, which left a man in his 20s critically injured. The victim was shot twice in the leg during a brazen attack on a residential driveway.

The dramatic arrests were made following a high-intensity “strike day” operation by Merseyside Police targeting suspects across Knowsley, Sefton, and Liverpool. Officers were called to the scene just before 10:20pm on Friday, 28 November, after reports of gunfire. The victim was rushed to hospital with serious wounds.

Police believe two men fled the scene on a Sur-ron electric bike, prompting a major manhunt.

The suspects charged are Patrick Sean Lacey, 32, of Manor Avenue, Crosby; John Aaron Jones, 35, of Stamfordham Drive, Allerton; John George Patrick Hughes, 31, of no fixed abode; and Bernard Flynn, 61, of Knowsley Road, Bootle.

All four face serious charges including attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, possession of a shotgun and ammunition with intent to endanger life, Section 18 grievous bodily harm, and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).

Among those charged is Patrick Sean Lacey, a former Manchester United academy player and ex-professional boxer. Lacey holds an impressive record of 10 straight wins, with his latest knockout victory occurring in October 2023.
