Former police officers PS Sharma and Detective Chief Inspector James Senior are facing a disciplinary hearing following shocking sexual harassment allegations from 2021.
The incident involves PS Sharma allegedly groping a woman’s thigh and exposing himself during the event. Sharma subsequently resigned from the police force amid the scandal.
James Senior, who formerly served as a Detective Chief Inspector, is also implicated in the controversy. He is accused of attempting to prevent the victim from coming forward by telling her there was no evidence, no witnesses, and no CCTV footage. Senior reportedly warned the victim about the potential impact on their careers and urged her to “go home and sleep on it.” Ironically, Senior had previously led a campaign against sexual harassment within the force.
Additional allegations suggest that Senior tipped off Sharma about the complaint on the night it was made, potentially allowing Sharma time to delete evidence. The two exchanged WhatsApp messages on July 30 and 31, 2021, which were deleted prior to Sharma’s interview on August 1. These messages are said to contain “grossly offensive, derogatory, discriminatory, and misogynistic” content.
Senior also faces accusations of submitting a misleading witness statement, denying that he recalled the victim mentioning Sharma’s misconduct, and concealing the WhatsApp chats.
Both men have now left their police positions. The Metropolitan Police will conduct a misconduct hearing starting on July 12 to investigate the serious allegations against the former officers.
