On Thursday 27th November 2025, officers from the Middlesbrough Proactive Team pursued Wilson Junior Wunganai, 38, after he failed to stop on Palm Street. Driving a Volvo, Wunganai sped through the town at dangerous speeds.
The chase ended when Wunganai crashed into two brick planters while attempting to navigate a narrow pedestrian path near Borough Road. Despite the crash, he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended after a short sprint.
At the time of his arrest, police discovered suspected cocaine valued at approximately £360 on Wunganai. A later search of his home on Gretton Avenue revealed additional quantities of cocaine, heroin, cannabis, and over £10,000 in cash. The evidence indicated significant drug-dealing activity.
Wunganai was charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of cannabis, possession of criminal property, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified. On Friday 27th March, at Teesside Crown Court, he was sentenced to 4½ years in prison and received a 57-month driving ban.
This case highlights the successful efforts of Middlesbrough police in tackling drug-related crime through determined action and enforcement.
