Drug dealers Moses Irungu, 40, and Nontuthuzelo Halana, 44, have been sentenced after a major £350,000 drug bust in Edinburgh. Irungu received four and a half years in prison, while Halana was sentenced to eight months. The High Court in Aberdeen handed down the sentences following an intelligence-led operation that removed significant quantities of illegal drugs from Scotland’s streets.
The operation began in May 2020 with police raids on homes located on Pilton Drive North and Steads Place in Edinburgh. Officers seized 22 kilograms of amphetamine, two kilograms of heroin, and £10,000 in cash during the raids.
Following the initial arrests, a subsequent search in June at a property on Ferry Gait Crescent uncovered crack cocaine, mixing agents, and an additional £4,000 in cash. Halana was arrested at this address and taken into custody.
Detective Inspector Gary Reid from the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit commented on the case: “We welcome the conviction and sentencing of Irungu and Halana for their involvement in drug supply. This intelligence-led operation has recovered over £350,000 worth of drugs. We want to send a clear message: if you deal drugs in Scotland, expect to be caught.”
He added, “Irungu and Halana were key players in the supply chain. Bringing offenders to justice and disrupting drug networks is our top priority. No one is untouchable.
