Marcus Towner has been sentenced to more than four years in prison after being convicted of stalking, abuse, and drug dealing involving tens of thousands of pounds worth of illegal substances.
Towner first came to the attention of authorities in February 2021 when he was arrested over serious allegations of sustained abuse. His victim suffered physical attacks and threats directed at her and her family. An investigation revealed that Towner’s controlling behaviour forced the victim to change jobs and even alter her appearance to escape his influence.
Despite the victim’s pleas, the 30-year-old stalker repeatedly showed up uninvited at her home and left a phone to monitor her, which he then used to issue threatening messages.
On 6 April, police raided Towner’s residence in Ryarsh, West Malling, under the Misuse of Drugs Act. During the operation, Towner attempted to flee by jumping from a balcony carrying a holdall but was quickly apprehended by officers. Inside the bag, police found 12 bags of cocaine valued at nearly £17,000 and 47 bags of cannabis worth over £13,000.
At Maidstone Crown Court, Towner admitted to stalking with fear of violence and possession of drugs with intent to supply. A charge of controlling or coercive behaviour was recorded but left on file. On 11 October 2022, the court sentenced him to four years and two months in prison. Upon release, Towner will be subject to a five-year restraining order.
Detective Constable Luke Statham of the West Kent Vulnerability Investigation Team stated, “Towner subjected his victim to repeated and sustained psychological abuse. The harassment was relentless and caused huge distress, fear and anxiety.” He added, “We applaud the victim’s courage in coming forward and urge anyone suffering abuse to seek support.”
