Gambling Driver Jack Bentley Jailed Over Horrific A50 Crash

Jack Bentley, 30, has been slammed with jail time after a shocking crash on the A50, caused by his reckless online gambling behind the wheel. The Derby man swerved wildly between lanes before smashing into a stationary car, forcing a pregnant passenger into an emergency early birth.

Wild Ride Ends in Devastation

The chaos unfolded on April 6 at around 6.45pm. Bentley’s Ford Focus careered onto the grass verge between junctions 6 and 5, careering erratically across lanes. Moments later, he rear-ended a Nissan X Trail stuck in traffic, pushing it into the vehicle ahead.

  • The Nissan driver suffered whiplash.
  • The pregnant passenger fractured her pelvis and required an emergency C-section.
  • The baby was born prematurely and rushed to intensive care.
  • Two children in the car were also hurt.
  • Even the family dog was seriously injured and needed urgent surgery.

Victim’s Heartbreaking Account

“I needed an emergency caesarean because my baby was in distress. It was traumatic. I didn’t want my baby to be born so early like that. We were separated across three wards and missed out on so much in those first moments. No mother or father should have to go through this.”

She described terrifying weeks in hospital, fighting alongside her baby who battled collapsing lungs. “I was scared for her every moment,” she added.

Bentley Finally Faces Justice

Bentley was snared at the scene. Phone records revealed he was surfing online gambling sites during his drive from Blackpool to Derby.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. On February 11, Derby Crown Court sentenced him to two years and four months behind bars, alongside a driving ban lasting three years and two months.
