Anthony Collins, 55, a man from Dover, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for sexual activity with a child. The crime came to light in March 2023 when the victim bravely reported the abuse first to a friend and then to Kent Police.
Police acted quickly, questioning Collins, who lived on Maison Dieu Road, before charging him. In May 2024, Collins admitted the charges at Canterbury Crown Court.
On 22 November 2024, Collins was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. Additionally, the judge imposed an extra four and a half years on licence after his release to ensure close supervision and reduce the risk of reoffending.
Detective Constable Maria Cutter, who led the investigation, praised the victim’s courage. She said, “The victim in this case showed great bravery in reporting the incident first to a friend and then to police. I am pleased we were able to swiftly charge and secure a significant jail term for this dangerous offender.”
DC Cutter also encouraged other victims to come forward, reassuring them, “We will work with you to take the action that’s right for you. Reporting abuse can protect others from harm.”
Kent Police continue to focus on tackling sexual offences alongside domestic abuse, stalking, and harassment. They urge residents to learn more and seek support through their Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) programme.
