Man Rams Police Cars in Bizarre Southampton Incident

David Shaun Clothier, 45, with no fixed address, faces jail after a wild police showdown in Fremantle, Southampton. On Sunday, 25 January 2026, he sped his car straight at officers, smashing into two marked police vehicles multiple times. The officers narrowly escaped as Clothier reversed and even charged at them on foot.

High-Speed Chase Ends in Ditch and Foot Pursuit

The chaos kicked off just before 12.30am when police arrived at a Paynes Road property searching for a missing person. Wanted on recall to prison, Clothier tried to flee with his headlights off. He reversed violently through thick bushes but got stuck in a ditch. He then ran on foot but was quickly caught after a brief chase in Fremantle Lake Park.

Jail Time and Driving Ban for Reckless Offender

At Southampton Crown Court on Thursday, 12 March, Clothier pleaded guilty to three counts of assaulting an emergency worker and three counts of criminal damage. He was slapped with an 18-month prison sentence and a 27-month driving ban.
