David Schadek, 62, from Fenno Close, Colchester, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting children over a 13-year period. The offences took place between 2004 and 2017 and were brought to light after a victim bravely reported an incident in January 2018.
Essex Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Team conducted a thorough investigation, uncovering multiple victims and additional incidents involving Schadek. He was charged and stood trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.
On Tuesday 7 December, Schadek was found guilty of four counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual assault of a child, and one count of perverting the course of justice. He was cleared of two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and two counts of sexual assault of a child.
Schadek is due to be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on 21 December.
Detective Inspector Fred Tomkins praised the courage of the victims, stating, “Today truth prevailed. I want to praise the courage of the victims who spoke out in defiance of this man, and hope they find comfort in knowing David Schadek will now face the consequences of his criminal acts.”
He added, “Their resilience throughout this long investigation has been incredible, and I thank them for their trust in us. We will continue to root out those who prey on children and expose their heinous crimes.”
Detective Inspector Tomkins also encouraged anyone who has been a victim of a sexual crime to contact Essex Police, assuring that specialist officers are available to provide support and ensure their voices are heard.
