Police conducted a raid on a Colchester home and seized two handguns, including one fully loaded, along with drugs, cash, and a baton in a significant operation.

Lance Ames, 64, was arrested at the Broom Way property on Thursday. He faces charges of possessing firearms, ammunition, and obstructing police. His partner, Kim Ames, 61, was also jailed and charged with the same gun offences over the weekend.

Officers found the guns hidden inside a wooden box within an ottoman at the foot of the bed. They also discovered up to 50 bullets, mobile phones, a baton, and suspected class A drugs.

More than £8,000 in cash was seized from safes at the property. This money will be examined in a proceeds of crime hearing at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court.

Detective Inspector Richard Smith from the Organised Crime Partnership (OCP) commented on the successful raid: “With the support of Essex Police, we’ve taken two potentially deadly weapons out of circulation. The OCP is dedicated to fighting serious organised crime, including investigating the supply of firearms and class A drugs into the UK.”

The Ames couple are scheduled to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on 29th March 2021.
