A County Derry social care worker, Eugene Odhiambo Oduor, 34, who was convicted of terrifying sex offences against three children, remains a serious risk according to a tribunal ruling.
The Northern Ireland Social Care Council’s fitness to practise committee declared that Oduor shows no remorse and poses a “significant risk of re-offending.”
Oduor has been banned for life from working in any social care role, as reported by the Belfast Telegraph. The committee criticised him for providing “no evidence of insight into the seriousness of his actions and the likely impact on the victims.”
In June 2024, Oduor was sentenced to four years in prison at Antrim Crown Court after being found guilty of 12 child sex offences. These included 11 counts of engaging in sexual activity with children and one charge of sexual communication.
The offences occurred in May 2023 and involved three girls aged between 13 and 16. Oduor lived in Cliftonville Gardens, Garvagh.
This shocking case highlights the dangers that can exist within care settings and underscores the urgent need for stronger safeguards to protect vulnerable youngsters from predators like Oduor.
