Church Volunteer Jailed for Sick Teen Abuse in Cambridge

Nam Vu, 28, a volunteer at a local church in Cambridge, has been locked up for over three years. Vu groomed a teenage girl, bombarding her with more than 8,000 explicit messages in just six weeks in 2024. What started as a church connection quickly turned into a nightmare.

Parents’ Hunt Reveals Shocking Secrets

Alert parents grew suspicious and uncovered deleted explicit screenshots and a vanished WhatsApp chat with Vu on their daughter’s phone. The girl claimed they were “just friends,” but a damning handwritten note exposing sexual activity blew the case wide open.

“Vu made sexual remarks and encouraged her to take part in sexual acts, touching her inappropriately,” police confirmed.

Justice Served at Peterborough Crown Court

Vu refused to answer police questions but couldn’t hide the evidence trapped in his phone. He admitted to six offences, including:

  • Sexual communication with a child
  • Four counts of sexual activity (non-penetrative) with a girl under 15
  • Inciting sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15

On 19 February, Peterborough Crown Court sentenced Vu to three years and four months in prison. He must also sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order plus a lifetime ban on contacting the victim.

A Stark Warning to Families

This grim case reminds everyone to stay alert. Danger can lurk even in trusted community roles. Parents and communities must keep eyes wide open to protect vulnerable youngsters.
