A 46-year-old driver from Chippenham has been fined £2,185 and received six penalty points after dashcam footage caught him running a red light in Corsham.

David Simon Mayne was prosecuted at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on October 7, 2023, following an incident on September 7, 2023. The video, provided by an off-duty police officer, shows Mayne driving his Porsche Cayman through a red light at the junction of Bath Road and Cross Keys Road just after 7pm. During the incident, he dangerously overtook another vehicle, disregarding traffic rules.

Mayne pleaded guilty to careless driving and was fined £2,185, which included fines and court costs. Additionally, six penalty points were added to his driving licence, marking a serious offence.

“This offender was brought to justice thanks to a quick-thinking off-duty officer who sent us a video clip of Mayne’s careless driving,” said Sgt Bott from Wiltshire’s Roads Policing Unit.

Wiltshire Police are urging the public to submit dashcam footage promptly when they witness dangerous driving. They remind residents that prosecution notices must be issued within 14 days of the incident. Anyone who captures reckless driving on camera is encouraged to send their footage to the National Dashcam Safety Portal, hosted by Nextbase. More information and submission details are available on the official Wiltshire Police website.
