A raging man torching Christmas decorations at a Cambridge youth hostel has been slammed back behind bars.

Repeat Offender Sparks Blaze Days After Prison Release

Nigel Hensby, 27, barely out of jail after a nine-month stretch for knife possession and public disorder, struck again. On December 5 last year, the Norwich man showed up at Cambridge Youth Foyer in Rustat Close, demanding a mobile phone from his ex-partner.

Staff refused him entry. Furious, Hensby threatened to smash down the door and petrol bomb the building. A quick-thinking staff member hid in an office and called police.

Christmas Decorations Set Alight — Miraculously No Injuries

While the coast was clear, Hensby had already used a lighter to set fire to Christmas decorations in the reception before fleeing the scene.

Thankfully, no one was harmed during the blazing attack.

Swift Police Arrest Leads to Jail Sentence

Hensby was caught less than an hour later on Station Road, Cambridge. He admitted to officers he started the fire.

On Tuesday, March 10, Peterborough Crown Court slapped him with a two-year sentence for arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.
