A horrific shove at a Birmingham bus stop has tragically cost an 82-year-old man his life. Muntahar Ahmed, 44, has admitted manslaughter for pushing Allen Karem Chand, which led to fatal injuries.
The chilling attack took place at 3.30pm on January 14 last year on Soho Road, Handsworth. CCTV footage shows Ahmed grabbing Mr Chand’s walking stick and shoving him off the kerb. The elderly man fell onto the pavement, fracturing his skull and suffering serious brain bleeding.
Passersby quickly came to the aid of the grandfather who lay helpless in the road. He was rushed to hospital but sadly died five days later from his injuries.
Ahmed, who had no prior connection to Mr Chand, was initially charged with wounding. Following the pensioner’s death, the charge was upgraded to manslaughter.
Paying a heartbreaking tribute, the family said: “Our father was loving, caring, and never deceived anyone. He taught us to respect the law as an ex-army man, and we will always miss him.” They added, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Jesus said whoever believes in me, though he may die he shall live.”
“Our father is not physically with us but he is alive with Lord Jesus,” the family continued.
Ahmed’s sentencing date will be set soon at Birmingham Crown Court.
