Two men, Ben Zeto, 30, of Biggin Hill, and Adam Lyons, 35, from Birmingham, have been found guilty of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply. The pair were caught after a Metropolitan Police sting operation in July 2022 uncovered a significant drug deal in Bromley.
Specialist officers on patrol in Sunningvale Avenue, Biggin Hill, noticed two cars parked side-by-side. Zeto was seen talking with Lyons, who was driving a blue Audi. Zeto was holding a large black bag during the meeting.
When Zeto got into a grey Audi and drove away, officers followed and stopped the vehicle. The black bag was discovered on the passenger floor, containing ten large blocks of cocaine, each embossed with an apple logo.
Meanwhile, police tracked down Lyons at Cobham Services in Surrey, approximately 100 miles away. He was arrested on suspicion of the same offence. Court documents revealed Lyons had driven from Birmingham specifically to deliver the drugs.
Further investigation of phones uncovered Lyons using the encrypted messaging app Wickr to receive orders from an unknown individual. Messages indicated he was making deliveries to pay off a debt.
On 3 February, jurors at Croydon Crown Court convicted both men. Sentencing is scheduled for a later date.
Detective Sergeant Andy Snazell said, “We were shocked to discover such a large amount of drugs that day. This shows the vital role of proactive policing. We stopped a huge quantity of cocaine hitting London’s streets, protecting local communities from serious harm.”
He added, “There is no doubt the pair met to exchange the drugs and now they will pay the price for their crime.”
