Man Jailed Indefinitely for Killing Aunt in Brixton
Jordan Clarke, 23, has been ordered to indefinite detention in a secure mental health unit after killing his aunt in Lambeth back in 2018. The Brixton man was convicted of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility at the Old Bailey earlier this year.
Disturbing Stabbing in Brixton Home
On 15 April 2018, emergency services were called to a Sudbourne Road address after reports of a stabbing. Officers found 39-year-old Samantha Clarke, Jordan’s aunt by marriage, fatally injured with over 50 stab wounds. Despite medical efforts, she was pronounced dead at 7.11pm.
Mental Health Struggles and Shocking Attack
- Police arrested Jordan at the scene, launching a homicide probe.
- Mental health assessments revealed Jordan was suffering from psychosis, claiming he was followed by undercover cops and acting erratically.
- Family had sought urgent medical help, but doctors ruled his symptoms didn’t need immediate treatment.
In the days leading to the attack, Jordan’s behaviour worsened dramatically. His uncle and aunt paid an unexpected visit from High Wycombe, which seemed to agitate him further. Witnesses report Jordan wielding a screwdriver and several kitchen knives before locking family members inside the kitchen. When his father confronted him, Jordan calmly admitted, “I have killed Samantha.” Police found him calm and cooperative upon arrest.
Trial and Verdict
Jordan faced a murder charge that remains on file after being convicted of manslaughter. His mental illness, possibly worsened by the recent death of his grandfather and the surprise family visit, was central to the case. He never admitted guilt or acknowledged his presence during the attack, resulting in a trial focusing on his mental state.
On Monday 18 November, he was ordered to be held indefinitely under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act 1993 with a Section 41 restriction, ensuring he remains in secure psychiatric care.
