A Brighton man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for terrorising a Kent woman through a brutal campaign of control, violence, and sexual assault.
Andrew Wilson, 29, formerly of Brompton Close, Brighton, was convicted after a thorough investigation conducted by Kent Police.
Wilson met his victim, who is from Ashford, in 2023. However, their relationship quickly deteriorated into a nightmare marked by horrific abuse and control.
His abusive behaviour included dictating the victim’s clothing choices and forcing her to delete contacts from her social media accounts. He subjected her to sexual assault and suffocation, intimidated and physically abused her, and continued to harass and threaten her even after the victim ended the relationship.
The victim showed great courage by reporting Wilson to Kent Police. With assistance from Sussex Police, Wilson was arrested in Brighton on 19 January 2024 and charged the following day.
He was found guilty at Lewes Crown Court and sentenced on 12 November 2024.
Detective Constable Kellen Blackwell, the lead investigator, said: “Wilson is a violent and dangerous offender who preyed upon the vulnerabilities of his victim. It is right that he has been jailed.”
He added, “The restraining order on Wilson will offer reassurance to the victim, who showed huge bravery in coming forward.”
Wilson will serve an additional two years on licence after his release and is banned indefinitely from contacting the victim.
Kent Police continue to prioritise tackling violence against women and providing support to victims throughout every stage of the process.
