PC Lochlan Bashford, 23, based at Brighton Police Station, has been dismissed from the force after a disciplinary panel found him guilty of sexist behaviour towards female colleagues. The hearing took place at 1 headquarters and was overseen by an Independent Legally Qualified Chair to ensure fairness and transparency throughout the process.
The three-day hearing, which began on November 13, uncovered evidence that Bashford repeatedly made lewd comments and engaged in inappropriate conduct with female colleagues both on and off duty. During the investigation, he was placed on restricted duties.
The disciplinary panel concluded that Bashford’s actions breached the standards of Authority, Respect, Courtesy, and Discreditable Conduct, amounting to gross misconduct. As a result, he was dismissed without notice and added to the College of Policing Barred List, preventing him from returning to any police force in the future.
Detective Superintendent Jon Robeson, deputy head of Professional Standards, stated, “The actions of this officer fell far short of the standards we expect.” He emphasised that the force is committed to rooting out bad behaviour and fostering a culture where staff can safely report misconduct.
Robeson added that all claims, especially those involving sexual misconduct, are rigorously investigated under Police Conduct Regulations to maintain a workplace free from misogyny and harassment.
