A Brighton thief has been locked up for breaking into several upscale homes in the prestigious Regency area earlier this year.

James Filan, 45, from Lysons Road, Hampshire, committed two burglaries on 6 January 2026. His first target was a flat at Metropole Court, where he forced entry. CCTV footage captured him lurking outside, but he fled before neighbours became aware.

Later that same day, Filan struck again at a luxury property in Regency Square, stealing electronics and valuables. Police quickly tracked him down after he pawned the stolen items minutes later at an electronics store on Western Road.

Sussex Police launched a manhunt that concluded in North Wales. Brighton detectives flew in to assist with the arrest on 21 January 2026. Filan now faces charges of burglary and burglary with intent to steal.
