Firefighters rushed to Chestnut Court, a retirement village in South Yorkshire, after a blaze erupted on Tuesday afternoon, December 30. Six fire engines arrived to tackle the fire in the Worsbrough Common area of Barnsley.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue urged local residents and visitors to avoid the Chestnut Court area while crews worked to control the incident. A spokesperson said, “We currently have six fire engines in attendance at a fire on Chestnut Court, Barnsley. Please avoid the area while crews work to bring this incident to a safe conclusion.”
Chestnut Court is a protected housing complex consisting of multiple flats located near Barnsley town centre, just off Cope Street. The fire in this densely populated retirement community triggered a swift and strong emergency response. Residents and visitors were advised to stay clear as firefighters battled the flames.
