A 20-year-old man from Barking has been sentenced to prison following a serious motorway crash in Milton Keynes. Omar Makhluf admitted to dangerous and drug-impaired driving after losing control of his vehicle on the M1 northbound near Newport Pagnell.
The incident occurred at approximately 3.30pm on 16 February 2025. Makhluf’s Mercedes collided with the central reservation, causing a wheel to detach completely down to the rim. Despite the damage, he continued driving for several miles with a blown tyre, endangering other road users.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash. Makhluf was arrested on the same day and subsequently appeared in court six months later. On 6 March 2026, Aylesbury Crown Court sentenced him to 22 months imprisonment. In addition, he received a driving ban lasting nearly five years for this offence and others.
Police have issued a warning to all drivers to stop safely and contact authorities immediately if their vehicle is damaged on a motorway. Makhluf’s reckless choice to keep driving with a damaged tyre highlights the serious risks of ignoring this crucial safety advice.
