Armed Police Swarm Southampton Coach Over Gun Scare
Chaos erupted on a National Express coach in Southampton this morning as armed officers arrested a man carrying a firearm and a knife. Ten armed cops from Hampshire Police’s armed response unit, backed by a dog handler and support officers, swiftly overpowered the passenger on the busy West Quay Road commuter service bound for London’s Victoria Coach Station.
Gun-Wielding Police Take Control
Witnesses described a tense scene as officers stormed the coach, shouting orders for passengers to stay seated and keep still. The man, who had a bag with him, was swiftly pulled from his seat and detained. “It all happened very quickly,” one shocked commuter said. “The officers boarded with guns drawn, shouting at everyone not to move.”
Suspect Charged and Due in Court
Police have yet to confirm if the incident was linked to terrorism. A National Express spokeswoman declined to comment, saying all information would come from the police. The alert began around 8.15am when a member of the public spotted the man carrying a weapon on Northam Bridge.
The suspect, 22-year-old Martin Enifan from South East London, was tracked down by officers and arrested on the coach. He has been charged with possession of a knife or bladed article in a public place and is due to appear before Southampton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
