Half a million pounds worth of crack cocaine and heroin has been seized from the streets of Sussex in a significant drug bust carried out in London. On Thursday, February 2, Sussex Police, working alongside the Metropolitan Police, raided a property in Leyton Grange, Waltham Forest, uncovering a massive haul of Class A drugs valued at approximately £500,000.
This operation marks one of the largest drug seizures ever recorded by Sussex officers, disrupting a major supply chain of dangerous substances.
Mohammed Shafick, 27, of Leyton Grange, was arrested at the scene and taken to Crawley for questioning by the West Sussex Community Investigation Team. He now faces two counts each of supplying and possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply.
Shafick appeared before Crawley magistrates on February 3, where he was remanded in custody. He is scheduled for a Crown Court hearing on March 3.
Detective Inspector Alan Pack commented on the bust, saying, “This is a significant amount of crack cocaine and heroin destined for Sussex which has been seized. Our officers and colleagues from the Metropolitan Police have stopped these Class A drugs being circulated in our county and causing significant harm in our communities. These results don’t just happen by chance but through a comprehensive investigation and collaborative working with different forces.”
He added, “We will continue to work tenaciously to stop the supply of drugs coming into Sussex and disrupt criminal organisations exploiting vulnerable members of our community.”
