Thirty-three pensioners escaped injury after a car crashed into a busy coach in Portsmouth. The incident occurred on Northern Road in Cosham, Portsmouth, when a silver Ford Focus suddenly pulled in front of a packed 49-seater coach.
Miraculously, all 33 passengers, who were returning from a day trip in Salisbury, walked away unscathed.
The coach driver, a local man, was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital suffering from whiplash and shock but has since been treated and released. Thanks to his quick reflexes, a much worse collision was avoided.
CCTV footage from the coach shows the Ford Focus cutting sharply into its path just after 5.45pm on Tuesday, November 28.
Police quickly closed the road to clear the scene and tended to the vehicles involved.
Emergency crews responded promptly to the incident. One fire appliance from Cosham ensured safety and tackled a small oil spill. Two ambulances and a rapid response paramedic from South Central Ambulance Service attended the scene. Hampshire Police sent multiple officers, including five police cars and two PCSOs.
The Ford driver quickly admitted fault at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities. A responder at the scene confirmed, “Car pulled out right in front of my coach this evening.”
Despite the shock, the coach driver called emergency services immediately and checked that all passengers were safe. His swift action earned him gratitude and praise from those onboard.
The incident serves as a stern reminder to drivers to stay alert—especially on busy roads packed with vulnerable passengers.
