Police officer Ryan Gadsden, aged 23, was found dead in a park in Romford on September 25. The Metropolitan Police have stated that his death is not being treated as suspicious. The grim discovery was made by dog walkers in the area.
PC Gadsden had been suspended and was under investigation following allegations that emerged in March. The probe began after a young female cadet, who was under his supervision, filed a complaint against him. Additional claims include Gadsden giving a gift to another female recruit.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is overseeing the inquiry into the matter. An inquest has been scheduled for next year to determine the circumstances surrounding Gadsden’s death. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that he was suspended at the time of his death and emphasized that his family is receiving support.
A mandatory referral to the IOPC was made due to prior police contact related to the case. An IOPC spokesperson said: “Our condolences go out to those affected. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
The case has caused shock within the local community and among police colleagues, given the serious nature of the allegations and the tragic outcome. Both the Metropolitan Police and the IOPC have pledged to continue with a full investigation to uncover the truth.
