Shock gripped Woolwich in the early hours today after a person fell from height on Wellington Street near Thomas Street. The incident occurred at approximately 1.30am, triggering a major emergency response from local services.
The London Ambulance Service launched a rapid and comprehensive response, dispatching an ambulance crew, a fast response paramedic, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer, and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene. The injured individual received urgent medical treatment on-site before being transported to a major trauma centre. The current condition of the patient remains unclear.
As a result of the emergency, Wellington Street has been completely closed in both directions from the South Circular to Thomas Street. This closure has caused significant disruption to early morning commuters, with bus routes 53, 54, 291, 380, and 422 being diverted.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service stated, “We were called at 1.36am today to reports of a person who had fallen from height in Wellington Street, Woolwich. We treated a patient at the scene and took her to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
The Metropolitan Police have not yet released further details regarding the incident.
