Police were called to a chilling scene in Ilford on the afternoon of Friday, 9 April. At 2.08pm, the London Ambulance Service alerted officers about a woman who had been attacked with an axe inside a residential address on Princes Road.
Emergency crews found the woman, who is in her 50s, seriously injured. She received urgent treatment at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
A 47-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently in police custody as detectives continue their investigations.
Officers say several suspects fled the property before their arrival. A crime scene remains active while urgent inquiries aim to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
Police are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage from Princes Road or nearby areas on Friday afternoon to contact them on 101, quoting reference 3935/09Apr. Witnesses who wish to remain anonymous can reach out to Crimestoppers.
“At this early stage, it is believed the incident is primarily domestic in nature. The woman and the man arrested are known to each other,” police confirmed.
