A tragic fire ripped through a Wimbledon home last night, resulting in the death of a woman. The incident has shocked the local community as emergency services responded swiftly to the scene.

The fire severely damaged the ground and first floors of an end-of-terrace house located on Rotherwood Close. Additionally, half of the roof sustained damage due to the intense flames.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus bravely rescued a woman from the first floor of the property. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene. A female neighbour was also affected by smoke inhalation and received treatment from paramedics.

As a safety measure, around 14 residents from nearby homes were evacuated during the emergency response.

The London Fire Brigade received the emergency call at 10:58pm and managed to bring the fire under control by 12:23am. Fire crews from New Malden, Wimbledon, Mitcham, Tooting, and other stations worked together to battle the fierce flames.

Authorities, including the Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police, have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the devastating fire.
