A horrific crash near Wisborough Green has claimed the life of a seven-month-old baby girl and left a five-year-old boy fighting for his life. The smash happened on the B2133 at Newpound Common at 4.17pm on Wednesday, January 10, involving a Mazda3 and a Vauxhall Corsa.
The tiny baby girl was rushed to Worthing Hospital but sadly passed away at 6.36pm. The young boy, also in the Mazda3, was immediately airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting. He remains in critical condition late into Wednesday evening.
A 27-year-old woman in the Mazda3 suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to hospital. The 31-year-old Mazda driver escaped with minor injuries. The Vauxhall Corsa driver, a 36-year-old man from Pulborough, was taken to Worthing Hospital with serious chest injuries. All involved hail from Pulborough.
Officers are urgently seeking anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the vehicles nearby before the collision. Witnesses can report information online or call 101, quoting Operation Gilford.
The B2133 was shut for several hours as emergency crews worked at the scene. The road finally reopened just after 10pm following rescue, recovery, and collision investigations.
