A two-year-old boy was left seriously injured following a dog attack at a property in Egdon, Worcestershire, on Monday. The incident has prompted an ongoing police investigation as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
This shocking event comes shortly after a separate dog attack in Cannock, Staffordshire, on Saturday, where an eight-year-old boy sustained facial injuries. In that case, a 51-year-old woman was arrested and later released on bail on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control causing injury.
During the Cannock attack, a six-year-old girl and a 35-year-old woman also suffered arm injuries, according to Staffordshire Police. The woman arrested remains on bail as inquiries continue.
Recent fatal dog attacks in the UK have raised concerns about dog safety. On 21 March, 17-month-old Bella-Rae Birch was mauled to death by her family’s pet American Bully XL dog at their home in St Helens. Additionally, three-month-old Kyra Leanne King was fatally attacked by a husky at Ostler’s Plantation near Woodhall Spa on 6 March. Bella-Rae’s family expressed that she will be “sadly missed but never forgotten.”
West Mercia Police confirmed that multiple dogs were involved in the Egdon attack, though the exact number has not been disclosed. The dogs have been removed from the property and are not considered a threat to the public. None of the dogs involved are breeds banned under UK law, which currently prohibits Pit Bull terriers, Japanese Tosas, Dogo Argentinos, and Fila Brasileiros.
Chief Inspector Fergus Green commented on the incident, stating, “This is an incredibly sad incident and our thoughts are with the young child and his family. Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident.”
Police officers remain at the Egdon scene as inquiries continue to determine the cause and details of the dog attack.
