Three men were arrested late on the night of 8 July after police responded to a suspicious vehicle breakdown on Queens Drive, Clifton. What began as assistance to stranded motorists quickly escalated into a serious incident involving assault and drug possession.
Just after 10 p.m., patrolling officers noticed a car pulled over on Queens Drive. Upon approaching to offer help, officers detected the smell of alcohol inside the vehicle, raising concerns about the situation.
The encounter turned violent when an officer was kicked and spat at during the interaction. Fortunately, the officer did not sustain any physical injuries.
Following the incident, a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, drunk and disorderly behaviour, driving while intoxicated, and possession of an offensive weapon. A 34-year-old man faces charges including possession of an offensive weapon, breach of the peace, drunk and disorderly conduct, drunk driving, and possession of Class B drugs. Additionally, a 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon and driving under the influence.
All three men remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Detective Inspector Jon Kerry of Nottinghamshire Police commented, “Thanks to the responding officer’s instincts, dangerous weapons were recovered, and a potential accident was avoided. Police and emergency workers should never have to face assault simply doing their jobs. It’s unacceptable, and those responsible will be arrested and dealt with.”
