More than 16 local primary schools in Swale participated in the ‘Swale Safety in Action’ event last week at Swallows Leisure Centre, bringing together over 600 children for an important safety awareness session.
During the event, children received lessons on the risks associated with carrying knives, drug use, and alcohol consumption. They were also educated about hate crime, healthy relationships, online safety, road safety, as well as fire and electrical hazards.
The multi-agency event was led by family group Salus and supported by Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, the RNLI, Kent County Council, and UK Power Networks. Officers from Swale’s newly established Child Centre Policing Team were present to provide essential education and safeguarding advice.
Sergeant Carli Deacon of Swale’s Community Safety Unit said, “This is the third year we’ve run the event. Starting secondary school is exciting but can be daunting. Our aim is to equip young people with the knowledge to spot and avoid dangers.”
She added, “Our officers work across the community, supporting, listening, and educating youngsters. I hope the pupils found the workshops useful and it helps them make positive choices going forward.”
