Sultan Road in Portsmouth is closed this afternoon following a serious bike crash involving a man who suffered a nasty fall from his bike. Police, paramedics, and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance responded quickly to the scene in a major emergency operation.
Hampshire Police have cordoned off Sultan Road, blocking all access and turning residents away from the area. Teams from the South Central Ambulance Service and the air ambulance were on site, with the helicopter landing nearby at a local play centre to facilitate rapid medical assistance.
A local eyewitness reported that the man was initially taken by land ambulance to meet the waiting air ambulance. The South Central Ambulance Service confirmed, “They had sent a number of resources to an incident involving a man who’d fallen from his pushbike. The man’s injuries were thought to be serious and potentially life-threatening.”
The Isle of Wight Air Ambulance then airlifted the man to Southampton General Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Authorities continue to keep Sultan Road closed as investigations and rescue efforts are ongoing.
