Romsey MP Caroline Nokes’ office was locked down after a suspicious substance was found, leading to the sealing off of Romsey’s Market Place. Emergency teams rushed to the scene to manage the situation.
Staff at the Romsey and Southampton North MP’s constituency office were evacuated just after midday on Tuesday following the discovery of a white powder. The powder, believed to have been inside a letter, was opened by an employee, triggering immediate alarm.
Hampshire Police, Fire and Rescue, and South Central Ambulance Service were all dispatched to the location. Firefighters arrived equipped with specialist detection and identification gear, while personnel in protective suits investigated the suspicious substance.
An official statement from the authorities said: “We have been called to Market Place, Romsey, following the discovery of a suspicious substance. Officers are currently at the scene with colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Service to deal with this incident. An address has been evacuated as a precaution.”
