Chaos unfolded in Hounslow just before 10:30 PM on 20 January 2025 when a Range Rover veered off the road and smashed into a local sewing machine shop on High Street.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver appeared to be under the influence, resulting in serious damage to the shop’s front and interior.
Emergency services including police, fire crews, and paramedics responded quickly to the scene. Fortunately, the shop was closed at the time, and no injuries were reported.
The driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving under the influence of a substance.
Bystanders said they saw the driver inhaling from balloons shortly before the crash, which is commonly associated with nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas.” Police confirmed that their investigation is focusing on whether substance abuse contributed to the incident.
The shop owner expressed devastation at the damage, stating, “It’s devastating to see my livelihood like this. The windows are shattered, and some machines inside are completely destroyed.”
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “We were called to reports of a vehicle collision on High Street, Hounslow, at approximately 10:30 PM on 20 January 2025. A Range Rover collided with a shopfront, causing significant damage. A driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving under the influence of a substance. Enquiries are ongoing.”
