Greater Manchester Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in Bolton town centre who is linked to the murder of Susanne Galvin. The arrest took place last night during a routine patrol under Operation Overspill, a targeted crackdown designed to make local streets safer.
Neighbourhood officers on patrol noticed the suspect behaving suspiciously and stopped him for a search. The search revealed his connection to the murder of Susanne Galvin, which occurred in September. Following the discovery, the man was taken into custody for questioning by GMP’s Major Incident Team, who are leading the ongoing investigation.
Chief Inspector Mark Mangnall of GMP Bolton expressed his condolences to Susanne Galvin’s family, stating, “Our thoughts remain with the family of Susanne, who tragically lost her life earlier this year.” He credited the success of the arrest to the continued community safety efforts under Operation Overspill.
“By proactively patrolling in uniform and plain clothes, we can spot dodgy behaviour and reassure those enjoying a night out. Just last night, the team came across the suspect and took a dangerous man off the streets,” Mangnall said. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration, adding, “Working with our partners, we’ll keep making Bolton safe for visitors and residents alike.”
Operation Overspill has been recognised for its effectiveness and has been shortlisted for the national Tilley Awards, which honour impactful local crime reduction initiatives.
