The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an urgent investigation following the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man by armed police officers in Southwark, London SE16, earlier today.
IOPC investigators remained at the scene throughout the day, securing vital evidence and conducting a thorough sweep of the premises. Armed officers were reported to have forcibly entered the property as part of the operation.
Initial reviews of body-worn camera footage confirm that the man had gained entry to the address prior to the shooting. Armed police entered the residence upon arrival, and further inquiries are expected to continue in the coming days.
A spokesperson for the IOPC said: “We are committed to conducting a full and independent investigation into this tragic incident to ensure all facts are established.”
More updates will follow as the investigation unfolds.
