A man in his 50s has tragically died following a serious accident involving an HGV lorry at the Edmonton EcoPark construction site in North London on November 23. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash.
The London Ambulance Service alerted police just after 3pm on the day of the incident. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the man’s family has been informed, and a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is currently underway.
All construction activity at the Edmonton Energy Recovery Facility has been halted following the fatal collision. The North London Heat and Power project, which represents Acciona and the North London Waste Authority, issued a statement expressing their deep sorrow over the incident.
“It is with great sadness that a fatality occurred on Wednesday afternoon (23 November) involving a colleague at the Energy Recovery Facility construction site. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family, friends, and coworkers affected. We are providing support during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement said.
The Metropolitan Police and the Health and Safety Executive are conducting investigations into the accident. Acciona is cooperating fully with its partners to support the inquiry. Work at the site will only resume after a thorough review of all safety measures has been completed.
Acciona confirmed that a controlled restart of activities began today but emphasized that safety remains their highest priority. “The welfare and safety of staff is paramount. Activities related to the incident are still being reviewed and won’t begin until Acciona is fully confident the site is safe,” the company said.
This tragic event has cast a somber shadow over the Edmonton EcoPark project, with attention now focused on the ongoing investigation and the implementation of future safety improvements.
