A tragic incident occurred at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth where a 35-year-old man died after being electrocuted on a football pitch earlier this evening.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that the man was knocked unconscious after receiving an electric shock at around 6.30pm. He was immediately rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital but sadly passed away later.

The football pitch remains cordoned off as teams from power company SSE work to secure the area and investigate the cause of the electric shock.

Police responded quickly after being flagged down by a member of the public at the scene.

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service (SCA) said, “We were called to reports of a man suffering an electric shock at the Mountbatten Centre. Unfortunately, he later passed away in hospital.”

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fatal electric shock.
