Detectives have arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a 39-year-old woman found dead in Gillingham.
Kent Police were called to a property on Richmond Road at 4.51pm on Thursday, 16 January 2020. Despite the prompt arrival of the South East Coast Ambulance Service, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been informed of the tragic news.
The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. The suspect remains in custody, with officers confirming that he and the victim were known to each other.
Neighbours expressed shock at the disturbing scene. One local man said, “It was like something out of ‘The Bill’. It’s tragic she was so young. If it’s the lady I’m thinking of, she might have had a couple of children.” He added, “I had just come back from walking the dog when police flooded the area. Scene of crime teams turned up late last night in white suits and were in and out of the house.”
Police remain at the scene as inquiries continue. Anyone with information is urged to contact Kent Police on 01634 792209, quoting reference number 16-1041.
