A 39-year-old man has tragically died after falling from a bridge over the A303 Mere Bypass late on Monday night, Wiltshire Police confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11pm on April 14 following reports that a pedestrian had fallen from the overpass onto the busy A303 carriageway near Mere. Despite desperate efforts by first responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wiltshire Police described the incident as an “incredibly difficult time” for the victim’s family, who have been informed and are receiving specialist support.
The road was closed overnight for a thorough investigation but has since fully reopened. Police stress that inquiries are ongoing.
Officers are appealing for anyone who was travelling in the area around the time of the fall to come forward. They are especially keen to see any dash cam footage.
