The Isle of Wight is taking proactive steps to combat Type 2 diabetes with a dedicated roadshow bus arriving in Newport. Residents are invited to visit St Thomas Square on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 April 2016, from 10am to 4pm, to assess their risk of developing the condition and receive crucial advice.
Thanks to funding from the Isle of Wight Diabetes UK group, the Diabetes UK Know Your Risk roadshow is making a stop in Newport. The initiative focuses on early detection and empowering people to manage their health before complications arise.
In addition to the roadshow, the Isle of Wight Diabetes UK group is hosting ‘Betty Foss Awareness Days’ at the Riverside Centre in Newport on the same dates and times. These free sessions provide valuable information including:
- Eye and foot care guidance
- Yoga exercises to maintain activity
- Cookery tips for a diabetes-friendly diet
- General advice on managing diabetes
Heather MacDougall, a Ryde mother diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age five in 1967, coordinates the event. She commented: “Diabetes isn’t really talked about enough, and many people’s understanding is outdated. Some might be living with it unknowingly, risking serious complications. We want to change that. The Know Your Risk roadshow in the town is open to everyone, with heaps of advice and support to help raise awareness and encourage people to get checked.”
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about your diabetes risk and how to maintain good health. Visit Newport’s St Thomas Square and Riverside Centre on 29 and 30 April 2016.
