Detectives have arrested a fourth suspect linked to the fire that caused chaos in Canterbury city centre earlier this week.
The fire broke out at around 8:45pm on Monday, 2 December 2024, at a property on Guildhall Street. Kent Police and firefighters responded swiftly to the scene, with the blaze prompting road closures and the evacuation of some local residents as emergency crews worked to control the flames.
On Friday, 6 December, a 16-year-old boy from Canterbury was arrested on suspicion of arson. He has since been released on bail while investigations continue. This arrest follows earlier detentions of a 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy on 4 and 3 December respectively; both have also been released on bail.
Additionally, a 15-year-old boy from Ashford, who was arrested on 4 December, has been released without charge.
Kent Police have expressed their gratitude to those who have provided information so far but continue to urge anyone with details or witnesses to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to determine the cause of the fire that disrupted the city centre.
