Charles Hilder, a former army officer, has been identified as the man who tragically died after a violent clash with poachers at Lullingstone Castle. Close friends have paid heartfelt tributes to him following the incident.
On Thursday evening, Charles’ family rushed to the scene as police and paramedics worked urgently to save his life. Unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.
Kent Police confirmed that the victim was involved in an altercation and have launched a manhunt for two teenagers who were seen near the lake shortly after the incident.
The Kingfisher Angling and Preservation Society expressed their sorrow over the loss. On their website, they stated: “The Society has been shocked and greatly saddened to hear of the death of Mr Charles Hilder at 1pm on Thursday. Although the exact circumstances surrounding Charlie’s death are unclear, we believe he died after a confrontation with poachers. We offer our sincere condolences to Charlie’s family and friends.”
One witness described the heartbreaking scene when the victim’s daughter arrived at the location last night and broke down in tears upon hearing the devastating news. The search for the suspects continues as the community comes to terms with this tragic loss.
