Chaos at Westfield Stratford: Fire Forces Shoppers to Flee Cars

Shoppers at Westfield Stratford in East London were left scrambling as a fierce fire broke out on the evening of September 13, 2025. Thick black smoke engulfed the area, forcing a swift evacuation of the shopping centre and its car park.

Blaze Erupts in Car Park C

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) sprang into action at 4:05 PM, dispatching around 70 firefighters with 10 fire engines to tackle the blaze. The fire quickly spread across 15 vehicles parked on the upper level of Car Park C.

After a tense battle, firefighters brought the blaze under control by 5:54 PM, preventing further damage and casualties.

Shopping Centre Operations Resume Amid Aftermath

Westfield Stratford reopened today from 12 PM to 6 PM, but Car Park C remains closed while safety inspections are carried out. A spokesperson posted on Instagram, saying:

“We thank our customers for their patience last night with disruptions caused to their visit.”

Vehicle Access and Safety Warnings

  • Customers trying to access vehicles in Car Park C must email the centre with car registration details.
  • Many cars remain trapped inside the cordoned area, delaying retrieval.
  • The LFB urges the public to steer clear as crews continue dampening hotspots.
  • The London Ambulance Service treated two people at the scene; both were discharged quickly.

The dramatic fire at one of London’s busiest shopping hubs has left a smoky scar on the city, but quick emergency action prevented tragedy.
