A tragic crash on Ongar Road near Herons Lane left a motorbike rider dead and a 17-year-old girl with potentially life-changing injuries. The collision occurred just before 8pm on Tuesday, 10 August.

The motorbike rider died instantly at the scene. His pillion passenger, a 17-year-old girl, was seriously injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.

The other vehicle involved was a small white Ford Escort van, which fled the scene without stopping.

Police are urgently seeking to speak to 50-year-old Adrian Bendell from Braintree in connection with the hit-and-run. Bendell is described as 6ft 1in tall with short greying brown hair and is believed to frequent local fishing lakes and pubs in the Braintree area.

Inspector Mark Fraser of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, “We are continuing to support the families of those involved in what is a truly awful time. Our enquiries are progressing and we need anyone who knows where Adrian Bendell is to contact us.”
