A devastating crash in Basildon just after 2:30am GMT has left one young man dead and three others injured. Essex Police reported that officers attempted to stop a white Citroen Berlingo van before it collided with a wall on Pound Lane, Bowers Gifford.
Police have arrested an 18-year-old woman, a 17-year-old girl, and a 17-year-old boy in connection with the incident. All three face charges including causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
The case is currently under further investigation by the police watchdog.
Insp Mark Fraser said: “My officers have been working through the night to begin to establish the circumstances leading up to this collision in which a young man sadly lost his life. I need anyone who saw what happened or has any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage to contact my team.”
The road was closed for several hours following the crash but has since reopened.
