Byron Cole, aged 40, has been found guilty of the murder of Anthony Morrison, 41, in Croydon. The fatal shooting took place on 19 June 2025, and the conviction was handed down at Woolwich Crown Court.

The incident occurred at approximately 17:05 on Imperial Way, Croydon, while Anthony Morrison was attending a wake. Emergency services responded promptly, but Morrison was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the shooting, a three-day manhunt was launched, resulting in Cole’s arrest. During the investigation, police located a firearm hidden behind brickwork in a communal area of Cole’s residence in Lambeth. Forensic tests confirmed Cole’s DNA on the weapon, although it was not the firearm used in the shooting.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten expressed gratitude to the witnesses, stating, “Our thoughts are with Anthony’s family and friends. This verdict would not have been possible without the bravery of witnesses coming forward. The Met remains committed to bringing dangerous offenders to justice.”

In addition to the murder charge, Cole was convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled as detectives continue their investigation to ensure full accountability.
